(ANSA) – ROME, AUGUST 15 – There are 4,960 firefighters in operational service today, on the day of August 15th, in addition to the personnel engaged in the 7 rural centers operational from this year in or near National Parks and / o Regional protected areas, in contexts characterized not only by a high incidence of forest fires and vegetation but also by the presence of forest stands of significant environmental value. The National Corps air fleet is operational with 15 Canadair, 15 helicopters ready to guarantee rescue operations and 8 helicopters for fighting forest fires. This was announced in a press release.
Since 1 August 2021, 970,869 interventions have been carried out by fire brigade teams throughout Italy: an average of 2,660 per day. There are 292,962 interventions for fires, 132,256 those referring to forest and vegetation fires with an increase of 27% compared to the previous year, 279,246 those for ordinary rescue, 54,515 for requests for intervention related to static instability and structural failure, 53,075 those for road accidents, 32,211 due to water and hydrogeological damage, 1,518 related to the Covid-19 emergency, 1,014 those due to the central Italy earthquake emergency and 124,072 those carried out by the National Corps for other types of intervention.
