(ANSA) – PALIZZI, AUGUST 16 – New landing of migrants yesterday along the Ionian coast of the province of Reggio Calabria. This time it was an “autonomous” landing and the migrants, who left Turkey, arrived in the Spropoli hamlet of the municipality of Palizzi where they ran aground on the shoreline aboard a sailboat of about 12 meters. 74, of various nationalities, then went ashore. To raise the alarm were some swimmers who were on the beach and witnessed the arrival of the sailboat to shore. The agents of the State Police of the commissariat of Condofuri, the soldiers of the Coast Guard of Reggio Calabria and some administrators of the Municipality of Palizzi, including the mayor, Umberto Felice Nocera, went to the place.

After the first aid, the migrants were transferred to the Palizzi sports hall and subjected to the molecular swab test by the medical staff of the Reggio provincial health authority. Cases of scabies have been found in several migrants. As soon as the identification and photo-signaling procedures are completed by the agents of the foreign office of the Reggio Calabria Police Headquarters, the migrants, on the instructions of the Reggio Prefecture, will be transferred in the coming days to more adequate reception facilities.

With the landing of Spropoli di Palizzi, the number of arrivals of migrants in the single strip of coast of Locri rose to 37 in these eight and a half months of 2022. (ANSA).
