(ANSA) – ROME, AUGUST 18 – The crews of the Canadair and helicopters of the State Air Fleet, coordinated by the Department of Civil Protection, were engaged from the first light of the day in the extinguishing of the numerous forest fires for which it was essential air support for operations carried out by ground crews.
According to the data available at 18.30, 21 requests for air competition received by the Unified Air Operations Center (COAU) of the Department, of which 17 from Sicily, 3 from Calabria and one from Abruzzo.
The intense work carried out by the pilots of the aircraft has made it possible to control or extinguish 12 fires so far. The activities of launching water and retardant and extinguishing liquid will continue as long as the light conditions allow to operate safely. (HANDLE).
