Earthquake: Legnini, 10 thousand private construction sites in 2 years

(ANSA) – ANCONA, AUGUST 19 – The post-earthquake reconstruction of Central Italy is entering the “mature phase”, in the last two years ten thousand private construction sites have been opened which in June registered 22,700 requests for assistance. This is what is reported in the 2022 Report, presented this morning by the extraordinary commissioner Giovanni Legnini, on the eve of the sixth anniversary of the first earthquake that on 24 August 2016 destroyed Amatrice, Accumoli, Arquata del Tronto and other small villages, also causing the death of 303 people. In terms of public interventions, 365 works have been completed and another 315 are currently under construction. “Results that only a very difficult external context, marked by the pandemic, the explosion of prices, the saturation of the building market, the consequences of the war, prevented them from becoming even more consistent”, underlined the commissioner. The Report – a document of about one hundred pages – takes stock of the progress of both the private and public reconstruction, but also of the repairs of churches and places of worship, proposing for the first time a complete picture of the damage caused by the earthquake six years ago, totaling 26.5 billion euros, also at the level of individual municipalities. Amatrice is the municipality with the greatest damage, for over 1.3 billion euros, followed by Camerino with 1.2 billion and Norcia, with 1.1 billion. (HANDLE).
