(ANSA) – PADUA, AUGUST 21 – New non-violent blitz by the Last Generation activists, who this morning entered the Scrovegni Chapel in Padua, chaining themselves to the balustrades that delimit the path of visitors to Giotto’s cycle of frescoes. At that point one of them read aloud the movement’s protest messages against the waste of water and energy.
Shortly afterwards, the police arrived, who first tried to persuade the activists to stop the protest, then, seeing their refusal, they had the chains cut with shears and carried away the demonstrators in their arms. The demonstrators, 4 in all, entered the Giotto Chapel – which is part of the Unesco heritage sites of Padua Urbs Picta – with a normal ticket, purchased for the 10.20 visiting hours, confused with tourists. Once inside, to the amazement of the other visitors, two of them first displayed a banner with the movement’s slogans, then took out the chains and padlocked them to the metal handrail that marks the distance from the frescoed walls. The other two, however, filmed the protest action (ANSA).
