The constitutionalist Lorenza Carlassare dies

(ANSA) – ROME, AUGUST 21 – The constitutionalist Lorenza Carlassare passed away today at the age of 91. Emeritus professor of the University of Padua, Carlassare died in her home in the Venetian capital. She was the first woman to win a chair of constitutional law in Italy.

The constitutionalist also taught at the universities of Verona and Ferrara. In 2014 she was appointed to the Accademia dei Lincei and was a member of the Olympic Academy of Vicenza and of the Galilean Academy and Academy of Sciences, Letters and Arts of Padua.

Having graduated very young with full marks, at the age of 21, Carlassare obtained a research grant which, however, was suspended after she got married. In the past you have told how complicated the beginning of her career was. “I gave the public prosecutor’s exam straight away – he explained in an interview – even though I would never have done it as a lawyer. And even if I wanted to, I could not have been a magistrate. A Fascist law was in force which excluded women by the judiciary as well as by executive functions in the public administration “.
