(ANSA) – ROME, AUGUST 22 – School administrators must ask the ASL and Arpa to monitor the air quality of the classrooms: a recent Prime Ministerial Decree on air quality in schools provides for this. It is a pity that the ARPA has already begun to respond to some schools that it is not within its competence to monitor the quality of the ‘indoor’ air and even the competences of the various regional ARPAs differ from Region to Region. To report it is Cristina Costarelli who leads the school leaders of the PNA.

In the “Guidelines on the technical specifications regarding the adoption of mobile purification devices and fixed ventilation systems and the minimum standards of air quality in school environments”, the need to implement the ordinary rules of good behavior (such as, for example, the ventilation of the classrooms through the opening of the windows), recommending the use of additional devices for sanitation, purification and ventilation only in the event that ordinary measures do not guarantee sufficient air quality. For this reason, the school director will have to ask the competent authorities – the prevention departments of the ASL and ARPA – to carry out the preliminary activities of monitoring the air quality and to identify the most effective solutions to be adopted, requesting the owner of the building , based on the results of the aforementioned activities, to implement the necessary interventions to ensure compliance with regulatory and technical standards in terms of air quality. “But to some principals – Costarelli explains to ANSA – the ARPAs have replied that they are not competent: they have competence for the external air but not for the internal one; they will ask for clarification from the Regions and the Local Health Authorities. And the ARPA competences differ even between Regions and this further complicates the issue “. (HANDLE).
