Since yesterday many people, including relatives and friends of the victim’s age, have arrived on the spot, stopping for a few minutes, as well as a long-haired blonde girl who, having placed a bouquet of flowers, remained for a long time, moved and at times in tears.
The mayor of the small town, Marco Sartini, was also on site. Interviewed by journalists on the spot, he invited, among other things, to avoid controversy over the fact that the administration he headed has decided to turn off the public lighting starting at two in the morning, to allow energy savings.
A hearing is awaited to validate the arrest for the crime of road murder against the 20-year-old US soldier. The hearing should be held between today and tomorrow. The soldier, as announced yesterday, is under house arrest at the Usaf base in Aviano, where she is on duty after the optional arrest, provided for by the criminal code, carried out yesterday by the Carabinieri. The outcome of the toxicological tests carried out on the young woman in hospital immediately after the accident is also expected, from which it is possible to deduce any alcohol or substance intake. Results that, in any case, would not actually change the accusatory picture hypothesized against the soldier.
Later it will be understood whether the young woman will continue the judicial process in Italy or in her country, as often happens on the basis of international agreements for US military abroad. (HANDLE).
