(ANSA) – BARI, AUGUST 22 – The fire has been in progress since Saturday evening, which, according to a first estimate, has destroyed over 50 hectares of woods in the territory of Sant’Agata di Puglia (Foggia) , and which is putting more than 150 hectares at risk in the Monte Croce area, at an altitude of 650 meters above sea level, along the section of the provincial road 101 that connects to the Incoronata. At the moment, three fronts extending for about one kilometer on the north side are still active.
60 forest fire fighting units have been working on the spot for almost two days, including Arif personnel, the regional agency for irrigation and forestry activities, firefighters, forest police, civil protection and volunteers.
Since this morning, two Canadair launches from Ciampino have also been alternating with water and retardant launches, who have made about ten releases at the moment, after the approximately 40 launches already made in recent days. Extinguishing operations are difficult due to the strong sirocco wind. (HANDLE).
