(ANSA) – CATANZARO, AUGUST 25 – The rescue car does not stop for migrants who landed yesterday in Catanzaro and hosted at Palagallo in Corvo. The operations activated by the Prefecture and coordinated and directed by the Police Headquarters are seeing the municipal administration committed – with the operational support of the local Police and the Civil Protection group – to guaranteeing goods and services necessary to deal with the emergency.
The police are continuing to identify the 448 people from Egypt and Syria and departed from Libya, who arrived yesterday in Catanzaro aboard a boat that arrived as far as the entrance to the port of the Lido district. The necessary medical assistance was ensured, it is written in a note from the Municipality, and for about fifty of them, in addition to ten minors between 14 and 17 years of age, they were transferred to reception facilities on the Calabrian territory. . The young people were taken care of by the social policy sector of the Municipality of Catanzaro and, under the direction of the Prefecture, placed in the structures. Furthermore, a cultural mediator was made available thanks to the staff of the Pon inclusione project.
Camp beds have been allocated inside the building, made available by the Civil Protection, and spaces have been organized to allow maximum safety, sanitation and the protection of people’s health. Many volunteers, associations and free citizens who have donated in large numbers food and basic necessities, also collaborating in their sorting to those in need. The municipal administration, the note concludes, “thanks all those who have provided their help, underlining that currently the migrants guests of the Palazzetto need only underwear and towels”.
