Migrants: Catanzaro, archbishop visiting Palasport

Elections, Anita Likmeta:

(ANSA) – CATANZARO, AUGUST 26 – The archbishop of Catanzaro-Squillace, Msgr. Claudio Maniago visited the migrants who for three days, after arriving on board a boat full of people (there were 451), are housed in the “Palagallo” Sports Hall in Corvo.

Accompanied by the representatives of the Municipality, the prelate met the refugees and greeted and thanked the operators who are managing the reception, including health workers, police forces, volunteers and cultural mediators. “A message of strong hope – said Mgr. Maniago – in the face of a tragedy, because certainly they are desperate people in search of the possibility of survival. But the most beautiful message comes from the city that has been able to react with a great spirit of welcome. . It is a good sign, it means that we can nourish hope “.

“I told the migrants – added the archbishop – to feel close to us and I gave them God’s blessing. Thanks to the cultural mediator, I communicated that we are also close to their family. Because in their trauma there is also that of living away from their loved ones. Our city and our region must show that they have hope and this must be done by welcoming those who are worse off than us “. (HANDLE).
