Sextortion: Fvg Postal Police, strong increase in number of victims

Elections, Anita Likmeta:

(ANSA) – TRIESTE, AUGUST 26 – “The number of minors victims of sextortion has increased dramatically” in recent months in Fvg, as denounced by the regional Postal Police which already reports over a hundred reports received in which minors are lured through social networks mostly between 15 and 17 years old and even younger.

For the Police it is a phenomenon that begins with some chats with social profiles of kind and handsome girls and boys, appreciation and likes for the photos published, then moves on to video chat with increasingly pushed requests and finally online hammering with a request for money, with the threat of spreading the sexual material among all contacts, friends and relatives. A situation in which victims tend not to confide in each other, particularly with their parents. Reason why the phenomenon is underestimated.

The postal police therefore advises not to give in to blackmail, because the requests would become more insistent, not to be ashamed, not to delete the messages exchanged with the extortionists, not to close the social profiles on which they are contacted, but to take screen shots of conversations and threats, as well as to report on the portal www.commissariatodips.it to ask for help, remembering that those over 14 can file a complaint, even independently. Similar advice also for parents, avoiding to judge the behavior of children as irresponsible. (HANDLE).
