Naples: “tourists exchange clochard umbrella for refreshment point”

Elections, Anita Likmeta:

(ANSA) – NAPLES, AUGUST 26 – “We bring, for the umpteenth time, to your institutional attention the persistence of the state of decay present on the flowerbeds of the Maschio Angioino.

A few days ago, moreover, an umbrella appeared among the canvas and cardboard huts. From a distance it looks like the appendix of a bathing beach or a refreshment point. Great disappointment for tourists, but the piles of garbage remain in plain sight in the lower corner of the flower beds. Naples, Laura Lieto, is the “No Comment” association that, on a weekly basis, sends its activists around the city in order to identify and report emergencies of various kinds (supportive, cultural and sanitary).

In the e-mail, the association (cultural volunteer for the promotion of solidarity and non-profit visual information) has also attached photos, postcard size, taken on the morning of August 22 last.

“We have been reporting the problem since March – explains Antonio Alfano – on May 30 we also sent a pec to Minister Franceschini. Never a reply, neither from him nor from the Municipality. Obviously the problem is not the homeless who are only looking for a place to live and that open the umbrella only to shelter from the scorching summer sun, but the state of abandonment they are in due to the lack of alternatives “.
