(ANSA) – FLORENCE, AUGUST 27 – Extraordinary maintenance work on the ‘Pellegrino’ tunnel was completed this morning, between the urban stations of Firenze Statuto and Firenze Campo di Marte, carried out by Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (FS Italiane Group). Railway traffic between the two stations in the city resumed at 4.30.
During the activities that began on August 7, Rfi explains, a new water drainage system was built and the ballast, tracks and sleepers were completely replaced. The maintenance works were carried out “to maintain safety standards and to improve the performance of the railway infrastructure”. About 50 RFI workers and contractors worked on the site, with the help of three ‘yard trains’ and numerous work vehicles in the various fixed and mobile sites. The economic investment was approximately 2.5 million euros. During the works, RFI had to make some changes, both to the traffic of medium and long-distance trains (including high-speed ones), and to that of some regional trains.
