Deputy Artem Dmitruk reacted negatively to the assignment of the name of the artist Alexander Roytburd to the Odessa Art Museum

Odessa deputy from the Servant of the People party Artem Dmitruk called deceased Ukrainian artist Alexander Roitburd pedophile and drug addict. He was outraged by the idea of assigning the name of the artist to the Odessa Art Museum, where Roitburd was the director.
He wrote about this on his Facebook page.
“Call the Art Museum in Odessa in the name of a pedophile and drug addict! I signed an appeal to the President of Ukraine to assign national status to our museum, but not in honor of the shit-artist! I will do everything to ensure that this procedure for naming the museum is not carried out!” “ Said Dmitruk.
The statement of the “servant” angered many cultural figures. Yevgeny Gendin, a cultural figure, one of the founders of the DGU KVN theater, answered the deputy in a social network sharply.

Note that the Odessa Art Museum received national status two months after the death of its director, artist Alexander Roytburd. The corresponding decree was signed by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky on the day of the 60th anniversary of the artist’s birth, October 14.
Zelensky also instructed the Odessa regional administration and the regional council to work out, in accordance with the established procedure, the issue of naming the museum after the artist Alexander Roytburd.
What is known about Roitburd
- Alexander Roitburd was born in Odessa in 1961.
- In 1983 he graduated from the art-graphic faculty of the Odessa Pedagogical Institute.
- He was a co-founder of the “New Art” association (Odessa), headed the Marat Guelman Gallery in Kiev.
- He was a member of the Council for the Development of the National Cultural, Art and Museum Complex “Mystetsky Arsenal”.
- He lived and worked in two cities – in Odessa and Kiev.
- The artist’s works were acquired at different times by the PinchukArtCentre (Kiev), MoMA Gallery (New York, USA), Duke University Art Museum (Durham, USA), Modern Gallery (Ljubljana, Slovenia).
- In December 2017, he won the competition for the position of director Odessa Art Museum, which was headed next spring. In spite of official resistance, successfully held this position until recently. During the confrontation between the artist and the city authorities in support of Roitburd thousands of rallies gathered in Odessa.
- The death of Alexander Roitburd became known on August 8. The details and cause of death were not specified, but it is known that recently he felt unsatisfactory. The media also wrote that the artist suffered from cancer, which was the cause of his death. The director of the museum did not live to see the 60th anniversary for 2 months.
