President Volodymyr Zelenskyy commented on the scandal with the alleged pressure of Bankova on the editorial policy of journalists, in particular “Suspilny”, as stated by TV presenter Miroslava Barchuk. He said this during a working visit to the Cherkasy region.

“Today I am putting pressure on everyone – on the oligarchs, on business, now on Barchuk … side of the state. Could (Barchuk) apply to us, “he said.

Zelensky asked how he put pressure on the media, for which the journalists called the adviser to the head of the OPU Mikhail Podolyak responsible for this, but they just named him Nikolai. The President reacted.

“The name of Podolyak is not Nikolai, but Mikhail. This already suggests that it does not put much pressure (on the media) if the journalist does not know his name,” the head of state said.

To the reply of journalists that some “servants of the people” refused to participate in the program, the president replied: “Well, they refused and refused.”

“I don’t understand why I and the President’s Office are here, but I understand that this is a hype. We don’t agree on anything, no lists, especially for the TV channel“ Suspilne. ”As for the deputies, they may or may not go to certain broadcasts. It seems to me that they are free people, but if you need me to turn to the chairman of the faction, Mr. David Arakhamia, and to put pressure on the deputies, they must go to this lady (Barchuk), then I can apply. they have such rules, they must, like soldiers, come to you. Well, I didn’t press for you to come here? Thank you, ”Zelensky summed up.

What is the essence of the scandal

  • Barchuk stated that Bankova allegedly “ran over” to the talk show “Zvorotny Vidlik” (“Countdown”) on the “UA: Pershy” TV channel with accusations of non-compliance with journalistic standards. According to her, the President’s Office has long and tightly controlled the presence of “servants of the people” on the air, they say, their campaigns are consistent with Podolyak.
  • The journalist reported that instead of two “servants” (they were not experts in the energy issue), they called Lyudmila Buimister to one of the programs, which angered Bankova.
  • On the next broadcast, the OPU allegedly set a condition that two “servants” would come if the channel refused to invite the non-factional Geo Leros. After refusing to fulfill the ultimatum, the “servants” did not show up on the air.

As we already wrote, the adviser to the head of the OPU Mikhail Podolyak responded to the accusations of pressure from journalists. He hinted that politicians are simply fed up with biased political talk shows.

In turn, the journalists supported Miroslava Barchuk, noting that censorship is a global problem for Ukraine.
