Klitschko denies information that during the conversation the issue of the upcoming adoption of the law on the capital was discussed, where the powers of the mayor and the head of the Kyiv City State Administration will be divorced.
It was possible to agree on a meeting, according to Klitschko, during the mourning events on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Babi Yar tragedy. According to Vitali Klitschko, they crossed paths with the president on October 6, when the mayor of the capital himself approached Vladimir Zelensky and offered to meet.
According to journalists, the main candidate for the post of head of the Kyiv City State Administration, the current Minister of Community and Territorial Development Alexei Chernyshov, was present at the same meeting.
Capital law on the way
- The Verkhovna Rada supported the bill No. 2143-3 on amendments to the law “On the capital of Ukraine – the hero city of Kiev” in the first reading on October 3, 2019.
- This bill does not give one person the right to hold the electoral post of the mayor of the capital and the head of the Kyiv City State Administration.
- After the law is signed by the president of Ukraine, the mayor will head the Kiev magistrate – the executive body of the Kiev city council – and chair its meetings, and the head of the Kyiv city state administration will oversee the observance of the Constitution and laws.
- This week, the Verkhovna Rada Committee on the Organization of State Power has recommended to adopt in the second reading and in general, draft law No. 2143 “On the city of Kiev – the capital of Ukraine.”
