(ANSA) – REGGIO EMILIA, OCTOBER 29 – The carabinieri of Toano, in the Reggio area, have vanquished a “gang of online scams”. The military denounced 11 people, including eight Neapolitans (two women) aged between 21 and 49 and three of Sicilian origin in the Syracuse area, including two women, aged 27 to 34. All with specific police records of scams. Fraud in competition through the internet circuit and money laundering the crime hypotheses formulated by the Reggio Emilia Public Prosecutor’s Office. About sixty shots that would have scored in various provinces throughout Italy, according to what emerges from the investigators.
The suspects used a consolidated modus operandi: they published fake advertisements for electronic, computer or telephone products, then entered a telephone number to contact, in the name of a third person. Finally, after the successful negotiation with the buyer, they collected the deposit and then disappeared, becoming unavailable. In order not to be intercepted through IP addresses, they created fake e-commerce portals using the free wi-fi connection of an unsuspecting guest house in the Neapolitan area. The investigations began thanks to a Reggiano who filed a complaint with the Carabinieri of Toano. (HANDLE).
