(ANSA) – SAN GIULIANO DI PUGLIA, 31 OCT – Extraordinary session today in the Molise Regional Council for the commemoration of the 27 children and the teacher of San Giuliano di Puglia who died in the collapse of the Jovine school with the earthquake 19 years ago. The Day of Remembrance was established with regional law 29 of 12 November 2003, as an opportunity for reflection and deepening of the problems relating to what happened on 31 October 2002 and to the themes of civil protection, prevention, safety and the world of childhood.
First the assembly at Palazzo d’Aimmo, in Campobasso, then the ceremony in San Giuliano di Puglia which was also attended by the president of the regional council Donato Toma, who went in front of the tombstones of the Angels on each of which he left a floral basket .
“Today is the day of commemoration, of silence, of condolence – declared Toma – a day not to forget, so that the awareness arises from the memory that what happened will no longer repeat itself. This is why the Day of Remembrance, beyond every another meaning, it must induce each of us, called to administer public affairs, to make a serious reflection, net of emphasis and rhetoric, on the current state of school buildings, the safety of which must be a priority for those who govern. it has been done”.
Toma underlined that “several buildings have been improved and adapted, school buildings and poles have been built with anti-seismic criteria. But we must not stop, our mission must be to not have a moment’s respite until we are able to guarantee safe schools throughout the territory. Therefore, we must insist, not let our guard down, reiterate the need to invest heavily in school buildings: a civilized country, like Italy, has a duty to do so “. (HANDLE).
