Memorial Day of St. Cyril of Jerusalem
Saint Cyril was born in 315 in Jerusalem. Upon reaching the age of majority, he accepted monasticism, and in 346 he became a presbyter. Four years later, after the death of Archbishop Maxim, Cyril became his successor.
The saint, trying to convert Emperor Constantius to Orthodoxy, told him about the sign of the Holy Cross on the feast of Pentecost. With the assistance of the emperor, the former metropolitan of Caesarea decided to expel the saint from Jerusalem. When a strong garden began in the city, Cyril sold all his property and church things, buying wheat for the needy with the proceeds. The emperor was informed that they had seen a woman dancing in church clothes in Jerusalem. Heretics took advantage of this to finally expel Cyril.
Emperor Julian the Apostate canceled the orders of Constance against the Orthodox. Cyril was able to return to Jerusalem.
Cyril left to posterity instructions and conversations about the events of the New Testament.
Signs and beliefs
Since ancient times, on the last day of March, they prayed for good rains for crops.
They predicted for birds and insects, heat will come soon. Swans have arrived – there will be no more cold and frost. Mosquitoes appeared – to warmth and generous harvests.
Our ancestors noticed that if the weather is good on this day, then the autumn will be good. According to legend, you can leave your luck in someone else’s house. Superstitious people say that by lending bread or salt on this day, you can deprive your child of a happy fate.
Earlier, GLOBAL HAPPENINGS told what not to do on church holidays.
