(ANSA) – CROTONE, 04 NOV – Rescued thanks to the courage of a group of people who did not hesitate to enter the sea to rescue 75 migrants during the night, including four children, stranded on board a sailboat stranded in the sea in front of Le Cannella in the municipality of Isola Capo Rizzuto. It happened during the night when the men of the State Police, Coast Guard and Red Cross of Crotone were alerted to the presence of a sailing ship that had arrived, escaping control, on the Crotone coast and, after having run aground, was at the mercy of the waves of the sea force 4. In fact, a very strong wind up to 20 knots had been blowing in the area for some hours, making rescue difficult.
The wave motion caused the boat with its load of human beings to tilt. As a rescue by sea was not possible, with the help of a dinghy, a bridge was created between the boat and the beach with the men of the Red Cross, Police and Coast Guard who entered the water to be able to rescue people . All 75 people on board were recovered, taken directly to the Cara di Isola Capo Rizzuto where they were refreshed and their state of health was checked.
Yesterday morning there was another landing with 161 people who arrived as far as the beach aboard a fishing boat, also in that case not intercepted. (HANDLE).
