AI: the “technological singularity”, a moment of truth for humanity

At the very beginning of the XXIe century, our ancestors lived in expectation of an event they called “technological singularity”. In their minds, it was about the time when the sophistication of artificial intelligence would be such that it would surpass human intelligence, improving itself exponentially, which in turn would disrupt societies. First announced in 2045, its advent was then brought forward to the third decade of the millennium.

It does not matter that our ancestors were mistaken about the dates and the exact nature of the event. What counts is to fully understand what they expected: that the machines finally supplement them in the mission they had given themselves to fix the order of the world. For obscure reasons, humans indeed felt invested with the duty to govern the planet, to reign over nature, to organize resources and to decide.
