Drugs: operation against traffickers in Salento, arrests

(ANSA) – BARI, 15 NOV – The carabinieri of the provincial command of Lecce are carrying out a precautionary custody order issued by the GIP of the Lecce Court against 13 people (of which 11 in prison and 2 under house arrest), accused of be part of an association aimed at the trafficking of drugs, cocaine and marijuana operating in the Ugento area and neighboring ones.

The investigation conducted by the Carabinieri of Casarano and by those of the Ugento station, coordinated by the Lecce Anti-Mafia District Directorate, started at the beginning of 2019 and ended in the summer of 2020. The execution of the provision is engaging over 70 Carabinieri in force to the departments dependent on the Provincial Command of Lecce, with the help of the “Puglia” Hunters Hunting Squadron and the anti-drug and anti-explosive units of the Carabinieri Doge of Modugno.
