The authorized representative of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine for human rights Lyudmila Denisova on Tuesday, November 16, was not allowed to imprisoned ex-president of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili.
She announced this in her Telegram.
The Ombudsman says that the Ministry of Justice of Georgia promised to inform about the reasons for the refusal in a letter, which is now being prepared.
“I will try to meet with the management and chief physician of penitentiary institution No. 18 in order to discuss the conditions of detention and treatment of Mikheil Saakashvili.”, – added Denisova.

Ombudsman Denisova received information from Georgian doctors that Saakashvili started vomiting blood and needed a gastroenterologist. However, for the second day already, the council has no access to Mikheil to carry out the corresponding procedures.
Detention of Saakashvili
- On the eve of new elections, Saakashvili returned to Georgia and went to jail. He has not been in the country for eight years. The media published the first footage of the arrest of the politician.
- Later, the politician went on a hunger strike, and because of this, his health deteriorated sharply. He stated that he had lost 15 kg behind bars. Saakashvili also started having problems with motor skills and diction. He refused any medical attention.
- The medical council made an urgent statement about the need to immediately transfer the politician to a hospital with multi-technology equipment. As a result, on November 8, Saakashvili was taken out of correctional colony No. 12 by helicopter.
- The politician was taken to the new prison with the use of force, he was generally taken into the elevator. The politician did not even begin to describe the actions of the Georgian security officials, pointing out: “No comment.” At the entrance to the building, Saakashvili clung to the wall, but he was pushed inside. And then, because of his resistance, several people literally carried Saakashvili into the elevator, after which they simply carried him along the corridor to the ward.
