(ANSA) – PIACENZA, NOVEMBER 18 – While the ‘Portrait of a Lady’ is exhibited at the great exhibition on Klimt in Rome, in Piacenza the investigating judge Luca Milani, at the request of the prosecutor Ornella Chicca, closed the investigation that hypothesized the crimes of theft and receiving stolen goods. The disappearance of the painting from the Ricci Oddi Gallery of Modern Art dates back to 1997 and its equally mysterious reappearance in December 2019.
An initial investigation immediately after the theft involved a custodian of the art gallery, whose position was however filed. After the discovery, a second investigation file was opened which saw as suspects the former director Stefano Fugazza, who died in 2009, due to theft, his wife Rosella Tiadima, who in turn died last year, is the convicted Valeriano Beltrame, thief of works of art, which had accused itself of the theft in an interview with the newspaper Libertà which today gives news of the archiving, but then had made a silent scene in front of the magistrate.
