(ANSA) – REGGIO CALABRIA, 20 NOVEMBER – “The investigative activity did not provide evidence of criminal conduct, but only possibly disciplinary. Nor can further investigations be developed”. With this motivation, the deputy prosecutor of the DDA of Reggio Calabria Sabrina Fornaro requested the dismissal of the prison police agents Mario Ripepi, Fabio Musarella, Massimo Musarella, Giuseppe Laganà and Giuseppe Pavone. Archiving that was accepted by the investigating judge Antonino Foti.

The policemen, on duty in Reggio Calabria in the San Pietro and Arghillà prison, had been investigated by the District Anti-Mafia Directorate as part of the investigation that in the summer of 2020 had led to the arrest of the former director of the prison Maria Carmela Longo accused of having favored dozens of inmates, some of whom are prominent members of the ‘Ndrangheta Reggine clans. On the day when the precautionary measure of house arrest was notified to the director Longo, some agents of the penitentiary had been searched because, according to the investigation of the central investigative unit of the Dap, they were suspected of having favored the inmates locked up in the High Security circuit. While for the director Longo, for an ASP doctor in charge of the Reggio prison and for an inmate, indictment has been requested in recent weeks. The hearing before the judge who will have to decide on these positions has already been set for 15 December. For the five agents, however, no “criminal conduct” emerged and therefore the investigation was closed. (HANDLE).
