Former head of the Foreign Intelligence Service Nikolai Malomuzh commented on the words of the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense Kirill Budanov that Russia may attack Ukraine in late January-early February… According to him, the Russian Federation is not ready for such a scenario.
He stated this on the air of the program “Tonight in the Evening” on the TV channel “Ukraine 24”.
“Today, according to all the data and assessments in the Russian Federation, it is neither geopolitically, nor militarily, nor economically, nor mentally ready for such a war. Because not only Ukrainians will die, Russians will die. This will be an extremely powerful blow to Putin. Even Russian society and Russian citizens do not support such a scenario. “Said Malomuzh.
He also believes that Russian President Vladimir Putin, concentrating troops near the borders of Ukraine, is raising the stakes in future negotiations with the West, but a full-scale war is not beneficial to him.
“I see that there is a geopolitical confrontation between powerful centers of influence – the USA-Russia, NATO-Russia. Here, accordingly, the factor of China plays, therefore, there are powerful models of confrontation with a demonstration of forces in certain regions. These are Ukraine, Iran, the Middle East, Afghanistan – those points that can become a theater of military operations “, – said the ex-intelligence officer.
RF invasion threat
- Recently, there have been more and more statements that Russia is building up troops and equipment near the border with Ukraine. Thus, the representative of the Ukrainian delegation to the TCG, Oleksiy Arestovich, previously stated: for Ukraine it is obvious that Russia is building up its military forces near our border and the situation is already reminiscent of the events of the beginning of 2014, which ended with the invasion of Donbas and the occupation of Crimea.
- Later, the head of the General Intelligence Directorate, Kirill Budanov, warned of a possible Russian invasion at the beginning of 2022. He also showed possible scenarios for the offensive of Russian troops into the territory of Ukraine.
- Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba believes that Russia can indeed carry out a full-scale military invasion of Ukraine, but whether it uses this option depends on two factors.
