The Russian transnational energy company Gazprom has announced that it is ready to cut off Moldova from gas supplies. Everything, as the Russian monopolist claims, is according to the contract.
This was reported by Interfax with reference to the official representative of Gazprom, Sergei Kupriyanov.
A warning
According to the report, Chisinau did not make the next payment for the supplies on time, and therefore the flow of Russian gas to the republic may stop in two days.
“The next deadline for current payments is today, November 22. In this regard, today Gazprom, in accordance with the contract, notified the Moldovan side that gas supplies to Moldova will be stopped in 48 hours. Gazprom is extremely disappointed by Moldova’s failure to fulfill its contractual obligations“, – said Kupriyanov.
The official representative of the Russian company recalled that for a long time they had been negotiating with Moldova on the supply of gas and the conclusion of a new contract.
“Gazprom’s proposals under the contract, at the gas price were absolutely market-based and were formed on the basis of exchange trading for gas. The Moldovan side insisted on more preferential pricing for itself. Gazprom decided to sign the contract practically on the terms of the Moldovan side, but with an essential and important point: Moldova makes 100% of current payments for gas on time“, – stressed Kupriyanov.
Complex contract
- On November 1, the Russian company Gazprom began gas supplies to Moldova under a new contract.
- In October, it was even necessary to introduce a state of emergency in Moldova in connection with the gas crisis.
- Chisinau has not yet formulated a response to Gazprom’s ultimatum to deprive the country of gas. Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Spinu said: “At the moment, I have not been able to read the text of this notice. He was sent to Moldovagaz. Tomorrow we will get acquainted with the document, after which we will take action“.
