An interdepartmental meeting was held at the Office of the Prosecutor General, at which they discussed the adoption of measures for the continuation of sanctions by the European Union against former high-ranking officials of Ukraine and their inner circle. Prosecutor General Irina Venediktova announced this on Facebook.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Olga Stefanishina, Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba, the leadership of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, National Police, State Bureau of Investigation, NABU and SAP.

The Prosecutor General noted that during 2021 the suspicion was changed to one of the defendants, three petitions for the selection of a preventive measure in the form of detention (in absentia) were satisfied, nine inquiries were sent within the framework of international cooperation, and four bank accounts of the former top official. In addition, the courts have satisfied five requests for permission to carry out a special pre-trial investigation, and one more such request is pending.

“We are implementing a step-by-step general strategy for maintaining EU sanctions against officials and their entourage … In 2014, the European Union imposed sanctions on 22 people. We must admit that not all production started in 2014 were promising and the lifting of restrictive measures is quite natural. The sanctions against 7 people remain in force. They are undergoing pre-trial investigation in 20 criminal proceedings. Many have been stopped because of the search for suspects, while others are still collecting evidence, there are cases at the final stage of the investigation … It is the sentences that are important for maintaining sanctions.Said Venediktov.

Also, law enforcement officers are looking for the assets of these ex-officials abroad in order to return them through special confiscation. According to her, in criminal proceedings against ex-officials, a significant number of assets in Ukraine, Switzerland, Liechtenstein and Latvia were seized for more than $ 119 million, over 74 million Swiss francs and 172 million UAH. funds, corporate rights for 776 million hryvnyas, 36 real estate objects.
