(ANSA) – L’AQUILA, 23 NOV – The National Alpine Association (ANA) has entrusted the Abruzzi Section with the organization, in 2022, of the third edition of the summer Alpiniadi, with races that will start on the Gran Sasso and on the mountains del Sirente, in the provinces of Teramo and L’Aquila. This is what was announced at the press conference in L’Aquila by the mayor Pierluigi Biondi with the president of the Section Ana Abruzzi Pietro D’Alfonso and the councilor Ana Antonio Di Carlo, head of the National Sports Commission.
The Abruzzi Section has symbolically received the torch that will light the tripod of the Alpiniadi on June 16, 2022 in L’Aquila. Established in 1929, the Abruzzi Section has 199 groups with 10,400 members, divided into 9 Zones. For the competitions, from 16 to 19 June between L’Aquila, Rocca di Mezzo, Fossa (L’Aquila) and Isola del Gran Sasso (Teramo), about 1500 Alpine and Aggregate athletes from all over Italy will arrive. “By organizing this initiative – said D’Alfonso – the Alpine troops of Abruzzo wish to thank all the Alpine troops who participated in the rescue and assistance operations for the populations affected by the 2009 earthquake. The presence of the athletes here will renew the spirit of solidarity with the people. of Abruzzo “. These are the specialties that will feature areas in the Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park and in the Sirente Velino Regional Park: individual mountain running, regularity walk in the mountains with patrols, orienteering competition with laser rifle, relay race in the mountains.
“This appointment is a prelude to a four-year cycle in various regions that will gradually add other specialties including mountain biking,” said Di Carlo. L’Aquila will host the opening and award ceremonies as well as the “Green Night of the Alpini”; particular attention will be paid to the Collemaggio area and the historic center, to reaffirm the Alpine spirit that the local community experienced with the support of the participants in the 2015 Gathering. The Closing Ceremony will be held in Isola del Gran Sasso where it will be assigned the Trophy of the Alpiniadi in the area in front of the Sanctuary of San Gabriele where every year the Abruzzese Alpini remember the Battle of Selenyj Jar.
