Poland, which has been constantly exposed to an influx of groups of illegal migrants since this summer, expects a new wave of them. Polish President Andrzej Duda said that there is a risk of an overland migration route from Afghanistan to the EU via Russia.

This was reported by the Russian agency TASS.

A new path – through Russia

We can deal with a situation where people from Afghanistan are walking across the land borders, through Russia. I hope that this situation will not happen“, – said Duda at a press conference in Budapest with colleagues from the Visegrad Group (Hungary, Poland, Slovakia, Czech Republic).

At the same time, he noted that the risk of such a development of events is “absolutely real”, but expressed the hope that the Russian authorities “will not allow such a crisis situation to arise.”

Sanctions

  • The new route may become an alternative to the air route, which has been used to deliver migrants to Belarus since summer under the guise of tourists, mainly by airplanes from Turkey. Now the EU has prepared sanctions against these airlines, and the rest do not risk engaging in such a business.
  • The list of companies with which it is forbidden to do business will include the state-owned Belavia airline and the Oskartur travel company, which participated in the delivery of citizens of eastern countries to the EU borders.
  • In Ukraine, in order to prevent the migration crisis on the border with Belarus, a joint special border operation “Polesie” has begun.
  • And Lukashenka continues to pour out threats. The self-proclaimed president of Belarus warned Polish politicians about the consequences of their threats to close the borders.
