In order for Ukraine to solve its current problems in Donbass, it will have to wait until Russia gets rid of Putin. There is nothing to talk about with the current Russian president.
This was stated by the former Minister of Internal Affairs Arsen Avakov, who recently returned to politics, during the forum “30 years of independence referendum.”
Without Putin
“I like the format of negotiations with Russia together with our friends – the Normandy format. You don’t need to talk to Putin. We will talk with another Russia – without Putin. And now it is possible to speak with the Putin regime only in the Normandy format on the agenda that will be dictated by Ukraine – the independence of Ukraine, respect for its borders and territories, for its rights.“, – noted Avakov.
For this, according to the former minister, it is necessary to have adequate power in the country.
“Responses to protests can vary. For example, curb freedom of speech, close TV channels. Whether to declare a coup d’etat performed by opposition parties. But we must understand that a democratic society is where there are other opinions that need to be respected. That democracy is always a balance that involves listening to society. It can be embarrassing sometimes, but you have to listen.“, – the politician summed up.
Other statements
- Avakov recently suggested starting preparations for a change of leadership in Russia. The former interior minister believes that Ukraine should have a military scenario in case Russian President Vladimir Putin dies. According to him, the state should be prepared for such situations at different levels.
- In his column on Ukrainskaya Pravda, the politician criticized the position of “the return of the occupied Crimea and Donbass exclusively through diplomatic means.”
- Avakov also believes that in addition to striving for NATO, one should take into account that the North Atlantic Alliance may turn out to be an ineffective bloc, which even Europe will refuse.
