In Stockholm, during a meeting between Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba and US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, the lights went out for a minute. The video was published on the Telegram channel.

Everyone was seriously scared. Blinken laughed nervously and asked him not to joke like that, as in his country it is allowed to carry weapons.

“In our country, it is allowed to carry weapons, I would ask you not to turn off the lights anymore,” he said.

At the same time, Kuleba was confused and gasped.

Following the meeting, the Foreign Minister told in Twitter, which they talked about with the US Secretary of State, as well as the head of the European Union’s foreign policy service, Josep Borrell.

“A friendly meeting with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken in Stockholm. We are working on developing a comprehensive package of deterring the Russian Federation from further aggressive actions, including tough economic sanctions. We have confirmed the importance of a strong strategic partnership between Ukraine and the United States,” Kuleba wrote.

Earlier, Anthony Blinken noted that only the implementation of the Minsk agreements can resolve the issue of ending the war in Donbass. But if Russia continues its aggression, it will face serious consequences.

The situation with Donbass

  • The conflict in eastern Ukraine began after the April 2014 invasion of Ukrainian soil by Russian troops across the border in Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
  • Due to the fact that Russia in every possible way denies its involvement in the conflict, the war is being waged as undeclared. The European Union, the United States and many other countries condemn the aggressive actions of the Russian Federation.
  • Russia regularly equips the occupiers, transfers them equipment and sends its military to the east of Ukraine. During the war in Donbas, Russia has killed more than 14,000 civilians and Ukrainian soldiers, and there are children among the victims.
  • In mid-November, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the conflict in Donbass was far from being resolved, and also traditionally accused Ukraine of non-compliance with the agreements.
  • Referring to the Minsk documents, Russia demands that Ukraine hold elections at gunpoint and a special status for ORDLO, but at the same time itself does not fulfill even the first points of “Minsk” – to stop shooting and leave Donbass.
  • Meanwhile, Turkish leader Recep Erdogan proposed reconciling Ukraine and Russia. He wants to mediate negotiations between Kiev and Moscow.

How to resolve a conflict

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy believes that Ukraine’s accession to NATO is the only way to end the war in Donbas.

Zelensky also stated that if diplomatic efforts to resolve the situation in Donbass fail, the issue of breaking all relations with the occupied territories could be put to a referendum.
