Arestovich explained why Zelensky summoned Putin for negotiations

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy summoned Russian leader Vladimir Putin to direct negotiations in order to force the Kremlin to a politico-diplomatic solution to the conflict, making it impossible to transfer this issue to a military plane. Thus, Kiev restrains the aggressor from a big war.

This opinion was expressed in an interview with Politeka by the adviser to the head of the President’s Office Aleksey Arestovich.

“He believes that it is necessary to speak directly with Putin, because Putin is a party to the conflict. Putin in every possible way avoids it (the conversation). Our task is not to allow the transfer from the political and diplomatic path to the“ military track ”, – he said.

Arestovich explained that the more Kiev puts forward initiatives, the more it pumps Russians along the political and diplomatic path, the less chances that the Russian Federation will turn everything into military action.

“Why? For every initiative, for every proposal for a meeting, a position must be formed, one must respond. Zelensky says:” I want to meet with Putin and discuss … “They have to take an official position … When the president announces such initiatives, it means that he puts the fork – must either accept or not accept. If you do not accept, then once again sign that you do not want a peaceful settlement. And we hammer them with these initiatives so that they are forced to react officially. He added that after that, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken accused Russia of non-compliance with the Minsk agreements.

Zelensky wants direct talks with Putin
