The leader of the so-called “DPR” Denis Pushilin announced that all residents of the occupied region will receive Russian citizenship.

Interfax reports.

According to him, to date, the number of residents of the “DPR” who have received Russian passports has exceeded 350 thousand people. The rest of the citizens will receive new passports, and all residents of the “DPR” will become Russians.

Passport certification of Donbass

  • In February 2017, Putin signed a decree on the recognition by Russia of the “passports” of the so-called “DPR” and “LPR”. The Ukrainian authorities called this proof of the occupation of Donbass by Russia, while the then OSCE Secretary General Lomberto Zannier said that this decision would interfere with the ceasefire.
  • In Russia, as of mid-summer 2021, it was announced that more than 600 thousand Russian passports had already been distributed to residents of the occupied territories of Donbass. Moreover, the invaders often impose the compulsory receipt of a document.
  • Official Kiev has repeatedly stated that these Russian documents issued by the L / DPR will not be recognized in Ukraine, and Moscow is doing this to enable Ukrainians to vote in the Russian elections.

As reported by Segodnya news, earlier President Volodymyr Zelensky said that by passports in Donbass, Russia violates international law.

Meanwhile, the Verkhovna Rada has registered a bill providing for deprivation of Ukrainian citizenship for obtaining a Russian passport.
