(ANSA-AFP) – RIAD, 10 DEC – In 2018 they had disqualified over a dozen, this year 43 were hunted: a record since the birth of the King Abdulaziz Saudi Camel Festival 6 years ago, one of the most important competitions for these animals to the world. The scam of camels ’embellished’ with botox and various cosmetic products, reports the official Saudi Press Agency, was repeated despite increasingly strict controls. “Violators face severe fines and are banned from participating in future competitions,” explained one of the organizers.
The festival, which lasts 40 days and is held in the desert northeast of the capital Riyadh, offers prizes of up to 66 million dollars for various competitions, which also include camel rides. The tampering emerged through physical checks and clinical examinations of the animals, including X-rays. The use of cosmetics aims to make the lips more curved and the humps more harmonious, elements considered indicative of the beauty of these animals. (ANSA-AFP).
