Pope Francis continues to pray for Ukraine and its people so that Christmas will bring peace to the country. He stated this during Sunday prayers in St. Peter’s Square, Vatican Radio reports.
This was Pope Francis’ first public comment on Ukraine after the new aggravation of Ukrainian-Russian relations.
Pope proposed a way to resolve the conflict
“Dear brothers and sisters, I wish to assure Ukraine in my prayers for the road, for all its Churches, religious communities and all its people, so that the tension around it can be resolved through a serious international dialogue, and not with the help of weapons,” he said.
He is also concerned that the production of weapons is growing in the world and its scale is terrifying.
“The last statistic that I read hurts me a lot: this year more weapons have been produced than last year. Weapons are not expensive. May this Christmas bring peace to Ukraine!” Francis said.

Russia strengthens its position on the border with Ukraine
Russia periodically transfers and accumulates troops in order to maintain tension to exert pressure on neighboring states. The Ministry of Defense says that a gradual transfer of Russian units, weapons and military equipment to the border with Ukraine is being recorded.
On December 13, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said that he did not understand the Americans’ “fixation” on the threat of a Russian invasion of Ukraine.
The head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense, General Kirill Budanov, believes that Ukraine will not be able to repel a full-scale attack if Russia decides on it – the aggressor in the first days may deprive our army of the forces and means to conduct a battle.
The West will not fight for Ukraine
Despite the accumulation of a hundred thousandth army near the borders of Ukraine and the threat of a major war, the West is already declaring that no one will fight for Ukraine. Former NATO Deputy Secretary General Alexander Verbshaw said that NATO countries will only help our country with weapons and powerful sanctions. Also, President Joe Biden yesterday confirmed that the US army will not fight for Ukraine.
