Membership situation

As you know, following the two-hour talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Joseph Biden, which took place on December 7, Moscow began preparing a legal document that should guarantee it that NATO will not move eastward. The document concerns primarily the prospects for Ukraine’s entry into the North Atlantic Alliance.

On December 1, the Kremlin expressed concern about the intensification of cooperation by the North Atlantic Treaty Organization with countries bordering on Russia. It got to the point that Russian President Vladimir Putin, accepting credentials from diplomats, demanded from NATO a legal document assuring that the Alliance would not expand eastward.

Before the meeting in Brussels, the Verkhovna Rada authorized the admission of troops of other countries to the territory of Ukraine to participate in international exercises.

Ukraine is not going to give up its path to NATO and the EU. Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba rejected the condition of the Russian president that Ukraine or the West must guarantee Moscow that NATO will not expand to the east.
