(ANSA) – ROME, DEC 14 – Jubilee 2025 and Expo 2030. The challenge that Rome will face in the coming years to transform itself into a more modern, welcoming and sustainable city passes through these two stages. The commitment to design the new face of the capital of Italy involves various levels of government. In the morning, Prime Minister Mario Draghi chairs a meeting on the governance of the Holy Year and indicates Roberto Gualtieri as commissioner. A few hours later, the same mayor – together with the Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio and the president of the promoting committee Giampiero Massolo – presented the Eternal City’s candidacy to host the Universal Exposition to the Bureau des Exposition in nine years time. During the meeting at Palazzo Chigi on the Jubilee, it was decided to set up a public contracting company and a control committee composed of representatives of the Government, the Holy See, the Lazio Region and the Capitol. Gualtieri thanks Draghi, says he is “honored with this certificate of esteem” and promises: “We will work tirelessly”.
The Holy Year of 2025 is one of the levers that should lead the capital to win Expo: the Jubilee – is the thesis – will turn into an opportunity to improve infrastructure, services and accommodation capacity. All variables that will be useful after five years, that “magnificent fil rouge” remarked by Ambassador Massolo. It is he who explains to Bie how the capital, “by its nature”, is the “ideal stage” for the 2030 exhibition and reveals the title of the project: “People and territories: urban regeneration, inclusion and innovation ‘”. The event, as Di Maio recalls, should take place from 25 April to 25 October 2030. In the video made to accompany the presentation, the voice in the background promises: “My name is Rome and I am ready to be born again”. (HANDLE).
