(ANSA) – CESENATICO, 15 DEC – Saint Joseph cradling the baby Jesus. Mary behind them resting on a makeshift bed after the fatigue of childbirth. Around them the inevitable ox and donkey, and other praying characters. This is the unusual configuration of the nativity scene in the Villalta di Cesenatico (Forlì-Cesena) fraction which in a few days made the rounds of social networks.
The volunteers of the cultural committee ‘Il mulino’ worked iron and clay for the thirteenth year in a row to create the life-size figures of the Nativity by covering them with the traditional sails of the boats of this part of the Adriatic. This year the creators chose an alternative depiction of the Holy Family. No longer the newborn between the two parents or in the arms of the Madonna, but in the loving arms of Joseph. While the mother reveals all her humanity in a rest with eyes closed in the background, almost detaching herself from the main scene.
There are those who saw in this choice a call to modernity, with a more active role of men in looking after the family, sharing tasks with their companions. “The commitment of the volunteers”, we read on the website of the tourist board of Cesenatico, “wanted to highlight the love of a father for his son and respect for the mother who generated life”.
