(ANSA) – VULCANO, 19 DEC – Decisive days for the inhabitants of the Aeolian island. Tomorrow morning a videoconference is scheduled between the volcanologists of Ingv, Civil Protection, Arpa, Ispra, Asp and the mayor to decide whether the red zone should be extended or the islanders at night will be able to return to their homes, located in the 6 km of the Port of Levante, Sotto Lentia and in the isthmus leading to Vulcanello.

The red zone ordinance that had been enacted for one month will expire on Tuesday 21 December. Currently in the values relating to the latest communication from the Ingv of Catania there have also been slight improvements, but there are also areas that continue to be at risk of gas. The temperature of the fumaroles is decreasing on the crater rim and stable on the inner side. The flow of Co2 at the base of the cone of La Fossa and in the area of Vulcano Porto, acquired automatically by the Vulcanogas network, show a general decrease but still remain at high values, with the exception of the Faraglione site, where low, typical values are recorded. of the background that characterizes this site. The flow of CO2 – on the other hand – in the crater area, as a daily average shows high values, always over an order of magnitude higher than the averages recorded in the last 10 years. For the geochemistry of the thermal aquifers, the temperature and conductivity values are stable in the Camping Sicilia well, while a slight increase in the level is observed in the Bambara well and the conductivity values continue to decrease. In the last few days, the checks by the ARPA and Ispra technicians, also with new instruments, have sifted through the red area above all. The results that emerged will be disseminated in the meeting tomorrow morning among the experts and then the mayor Marco Giorgianni will communicate them to the population. It is likely that there will be another extension of one month, but it cannot be excluded that the new ordinance could affect the most vulnerable people, while other citizens could return to their homes.

The last word will be up to the experts and immediately after to the mayor Giorgianni with the issuance of the new ordinance. (HANDLE).
