(ANSA) – PALERMO, DEC 26 – Thieves in action in the crib set up by the Franciscan friars with the scouts in front of the church of Sant’Antonino, a stone’s throw from the central station of Palermo. In fact, someone has stolen the statue of the baby Jesus. The parish itself denounces it with a post published on Facebook. “Someone will be served the statue of baby Jesus and has seen fit to take it rather than ask the friars for it. We hope that whatever house you enter will bring health and peace, light and salvation”.
The theft of the child was stigmatized both on social networks and among the faithful who today stopped in front of the church.
“This morning when we opened the church for the celebrations – says the parish priest Fra Gaetano Morreale – we noticed the absence of the child. Episodes like this and like the attack of a gentleman on the evening of 24 December near the station, in the area of the parish, they make us understand that the area is not safe enough and that fools and thieves roam undisturbed. We are confident in the role of the institutions but we have always asked in vain for a greater presence in this which turns out to be a sensitive place in our city and a enhancement of public lighting “.
