(ANSA) – MILAN, 02 JAN – In the whole of 2021 1404 workers died due to accidents at work: of these 695 in the workplace, with an 18% increase of this type compared to 2020. Piero Antonini of the Study Center points out of the basic unitary confederation (Cub) which denounces how “in the last 10 years there has been no improvement, despite the billions spent on security by the state through its institutions”.

It is also emphasized that, even today, many categories of workers are not insured by Inail or work illegally.

The data disclosed therefore “are certainly significantly underestimated”.

In particular, the categories with the most deaths at work are agriculture, construction, road transport and industry. Agriculture records 30.22% of all deaths in the workplace: of these as many as 75% were crushed by tractors (158) and the age varies from 14 to 88 years. Construction records 15%, the majority caused by falls from a height; very many dead worked illegally, mainly in the southern regions.

In road transport, 10.75% of all those in the workplace are dead: a significant increase also due to the exponential growth of road transport due to online purchases. Industry represents 5.89% of all those who have lost their lives in the workplace: they are almost all in small and very small companies where there is no trade union or a safety manager, By regions there are 78 deceased in Lombardy , 70 in Campania, 55 in Tuscany, 53 in Emilia Romagna, 53 in Piedmont, 51 in Veneto, 40 in Lazio, 34 in Calabria, 32 in Puglia, 30 in Sicily, 28 in Abruzzo, 24 in Trentino Alto Adige, 22 in Marche, 15 in Friuli Venezia Giulia, 15 in Sardinia, 9 in Umbria, 9 in Basilicata, 7 in Liguria and 3 in Valle d’Aosta.
