Dead refugee in Trieste: autopsy ordered

(ANSA) – TRIESTE, 10 JAN – The Public Prosecutor’s Office of Trieste has ordered that on the body of Ibrahim Afridi, 19, the Pakistani citizen asylum seeker who died after jumping into the void in a parking lot of a shopping center in Trieste after being been robbed by three boys, an autopsy is performed.

This was announced by the Chief Prosecutor, Antonio De Nicolo, in a statement released this morning.

The assignment will take place next Wednesday and the examinations will be carried out by the medical examiner D’Errico in the days immediately following.

Meanwhile, the Public Prosecutor has also announced that the investigations into the case are continuing jointly by the Carabinieri of the Trieste operational unit and the agents of the Mobile Squad, coordinated by the prosecutor Federico Frezza. They aim to accurately ascertain the role played by each of the protagonists of the story.

Afridi’s body was found on the morning of January 4 in the parking lot of a shopping center, and the Trieste Public Prosecutor’s Office intends to ascertain whether he died instantly or if he could have been saved with a timely emergency call. According to a reconstruction, the young man fell into the void after a robbery by a 21-year-old Kosovar citizen and a 20-year-old Italian, both arrested, to steal a quantity of hashish from him. The two had acted with a third, a minor. Posing as policemen, they had also hit him several times. (HANDLE).
