(ANSA) – ANCONA, 12 JAN – The military of the Economic and Financial Police Unit of Ancona, at the first light of the day of the Epiphany, seized 21.5 kg of pure cocaine in the Fermano area and arrested an Albanian citizen residing in Italy.
A patrol of financiers engaged in the control of the territory noticed a car moving at high speed in the streets of Porto Sant’Elpidio, almost deserted, and decided to follow it. Shortly after, the driver cautiously got out of the car and approached another parked vehicle, opening the trunk and taking out a wrapper. Then he went away in his car but was blocked by the halt of the Guardia di Finanza, who thought they were facing a theft. Instead of stopping, the man accelerated and fled, throwing the wrapper out of the window.
After a chase, during which the fugitive also rammed the patrol’s service car, the men of the Fiamme Gialle managed to stop the race in the city center. In the wrapper there were two sticks of pure cocaine. In the car, hidden in the trunk, a suitcase was found containing another eighteen blocks of the drug.
In total, over 21.5 kg of cocaine were seized, one of the most significant quantities seized in recent years in the Marche region. Once placed on the market, the substance would have yielded around three million euros. The man, a 36-year-old, was arrested for drug trafficking and resisting a public official and was taken to the prison of Fermo at the disposal of the judicial authorities.
