“The verdict is not needed immediately”: how Tymoshenko, Razumkov and other “heavyweights” reacted to the Poroshenko case

Law enforcement officers made an unpleasant surprise for the fifth president of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko, before the New Year – they announced suspicion, and then the court “finished off” with a decision to arrest him. While the treason suspect is abroad, the heavyweights of Ukrainian politics are warning the authorities of the consequences, especially against the backdrop of Russian aggression.

Zelensky believes that people will eventually understand everything…

The incumbent head of state warned his opponent during the debates at the Olimpiyskiy not to run away from Ukraine if law enforcement officers took him. Zelensky believes that the case against Poroshenko is unlikely to somehow affect the situation within the state.

“As a rule, this situation is influenced by financial groups. He (Poroshenko – Ed.) is one of these financial groups. The only thing I see is that we do not see any resonance in relation to people like Medvedchuk, like the gentleman you mentioned If this is what we read about coal, let the law enforcement agencies and the court sort it out. I think that there is no support for these protests in society, it’s understandable why. It doesn’t work out that way. And in 2014, they were not supported by society, I want to remind you. I think people understand what’s going on. Over time, people will understand who is who.”

Yatsenyuk warned the authorities about the consequences

The leader of the Popular Front party, Arseniy Yatsenyuk, believes that an attempt to arrest Poroshenko will have irreparable consequences for Zelensky.

There is no need to run away, there is no need to go anywhere. If inside you feel that you are right , you need to stay on your native land, at home, go through all fair, unjust courts and prove that you did not violate the law and that your position is honest.

The former prosecutor general said that in addition to the suspicion of treason “Poroshenko has approximately 100 criminal proceedings.”

Volodymyr Groysman wants to comply with the law

The former prime minister of Ukraine, who headed the Cabinet of Ministers during Poroshenko’s presidency, insists that the case of the fifth president should be carried out only in compliance with the law.

“The authorities must act transparently and within the law, and not immediately pass judgment. I am not going to throw stones at the fallen. A strong democracy can only survive with the proper functioning of the rule of law. Everything must be decided according to the law.”

And Medvedchuk is unhappy with the reaction of the West

Recall that the leader of the Opposition Platform for Life, Viktor Medvedchuk, is suspected of the same crimes as Poroshenko, they say, they acted together. Party co-chairman Vadim Rabinovich complained that when the suspicion was handed over to Putin’s godfather, foreign diplomats were silent. But as soon as the case against Poroshenko was opened, the ambassadors of other countries sharply stepped up in his defense.

And what about Poroshenko himself?

• On December 24, the court allowed Poroshenko to be detained in order to forcibly bring him to court, where a measure of restraint would be chosen for him. The prosecutor’s office will ask for an arrest with the possibility of making a bail of one billion hryvnia.
• Law enforcement officers motivate the need for arrest by the fact that before that the politician had not appeared at the State Bureau of Investigation on the agenda. Moreover, the State Bureau of Investigation advised the fifth president not to hide, otherwise he would face the most severe measure of restraint.
• Meanwhile, Poroshenko has already announced that he is returning to Ukraine on January 17 and advised the authorities not to frighten him with arrest. Moreover, the politician’s lawyers even asked the court to appoint a preventive measure for the 17th hearing – he is ready to appear in court himself, without handcuffs.
