(ANSA) – MONTEFORTINO, 16 JAN – A 63-year-old resident in the Fermo hinterland died after sliding for several hundred meters on the snowy slope of the east side of Mount Amandola (Fermo), in the Sibillini Mountains Park. The technicians of the Montefortino Alpine and Speleological Rescue were alerted by the operations center, called by some people who had heard the screams of the man. A fire brigade helicopter attempted an approach but failed due to darkness. The ground crews managed to reach the victim and transport her downstream, where the 118 doctor could not help but ascertain the death. The 63-year-old repeatedly bumped into rocks and vegetation. When he was reached he was subjected to first aid and then transported up a steep slope downstream, where there were rescue vehicles from Comunanza and Amandola, but there was nothing for the man to do. On the spot, in addition to the firefighters, the carabinieri also intervened. It is the second fatal accident on the Sibillini Mountains in the space of a few weeks; on 2 January a 34 year old, also from Fermano, from Porto Sant’Elpidio, Jonathan Strappa, died after slipping off a path between the Rifugio del Fargno and Pintura di Bolognola, in the province of Macerata.
