Band thieves works of art vanquished by the carabinieri

(ANSA) – BOLOGNA, 18 JAN – A gang specialized in the theft of works of art has been vanquished by the carabinieri of the nucleus for the protection of the cultural heritage of Bologna, who have recovered a hundred ‘pieces’ including paintings, sculptures and others objects and carried out precautionary custody orders in prison against five Campanians between 50 and 60 years old, residing in the provinces of Brescia, Naples and Asti, all with even specific precedents. The measures were issued by the Bologna Gip Gianluca Petragnani Gelosi at the end of an investigation coordinated by the deputy prosecutor Roberto Ceroni.

At the center of the investigation were a series of thefts of cultural assets committed between 2017 and 2018 in sector shops, noble villas, museums, churches and private homes, between Emilia -Romagna, Lombardy, Piedmont and the Marche. In addition to the five measures, there are the flagrant arrests of two other people in the course of the investigations and the free-footing report of a further 12. The investigations began with a theft carried out in September 2017 in the warehouse of an antique dealer in San Lazzaro di Savena (Bologna ), where over 30 paintings and other ancient objects were stolen for a value that exceeded 100,000 euros. Among the goods recovered there are 40 paintings on canvas, wood and copper, 14 sculptures of various kinds and 53 antiques. (HANDLE).
