(ANSA) – VIAREGGIO (LUCCA), 22 JAN – Aldo Cicala died this morning at the hospital in Pavia, where he was hospitalized; he was 77 years old and was former chief prosecutor of the Lucca public prosecutor’s office from 2008 to 2015. The name of Aldo Cicala is linked to the railway massacre of 29 June 2009 in Viareggio (Lucca) in which 32 people died due to the derailment of a freight train and the explosion in the inhabited area of a wagon carrying LPG. Aldo Cicala had only been in Lucca for a year when the Viareggio train disaster occurred and he found himself coordinating and organizing the entire investigation, which was very complex and technical due to the type of circumstances of the fact. He was also still at the helm of the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Lucca when the first degree trial began, which was exceptionally held at the Polo Fiere in Lucca.
