Terodefense against Putin and whether the power will be turned off – what was said at the briefing after the National Security and Defense Council

The authorities assure that the situation in the country is completely under control and there is no reason to panic

On January 24, the National Security and Defense Council held a meeting on the Russian threat, public utilities and other challenges to the national security of Ukraine.

Danilov on the Russian threat

NSDC Secretary Alexey Danilov said that Ukrainians today have no reason to panic in connection with the Russian threat.

“Recently, a lot of informational events have been taking place in our country. A lot of paramilitary fiction appears in the media. I would like to turn to you – friends, colleagues, to reduce the tension that exists a little. The situation that exists is completely clear to us. I would like to ask everyone to be calm,” he said.

Commenting on the accumulation of Russian troops near the borders of Ukraine, Danilov said:

“Is there any movement of the forces of the Russian Federation on the territory of the Russian Federation? Yes, they are, we are recording them, but this is not surprising for us. This is perhaps news for foreign partners that they finally saw that the Russian Federation has troops there, that they are moving.”

Shmygal about tariffs

Prime Minister Denis Shmygal said that tariffs for heat supplies and hot water supply would not increase until the end of the current 2021/22 heating season.

“Electricity tariffs, gas prices remain unchanged in accordance with the signed Memorandum with local governments. The government has fulfilled all its obligations to local authorities regarding the transfer of funds and taxes to the budget. Accordingly, this makes it possible to assert that tariffs for heat and hot water will not be increased by local governments until the end of the heating season,” the prime minister said.

Reznikov on territorial defense

Minister of Defense Alexey Reznikov admitted the possibility of allocating additional funding to the Territorial Defense Forces.

“Perhaps we will turn to the Ukrainian parliament with the need to make changes to the state budget, if we understand that we will need such additional funding. Today, all the border regions where the Territorial Defense Forces are located, which are deployed in peacetime, have already been formed on 70%, which absolutely allows them to carry out their tasks,” the Minister of Defense added.
